Isn't a major aspect of Dantes journey through Hell and his spiritual growth from it I'm learning to chastise and righteously judge the tormented souls he encounters rather than pity them? I always took it that he only sympathized with them because he saw some part of himself in the sinners and feared his own inevitable judgement. The purpose of his journey was to sharpen his inner virtue and hold it within his heart and act upon it outwardly, which meant that he had to oppose sin when he saw it rather than pity it. Each circle of Hell he traveled through, each sinner he encountered was symbolic for Dante overcoming these sins within himself.

I construct scenes in a very visual manner, and I have a hard time expressing these scenes in words that fully articulates the full breadth of these visuals and their deeper meaning. I'm trying to avoid using too flowery of language to set the stage in each scene for the characters.

What are some stories that I can read that evoke a strong sense of visual imagery? This issue is really impeding me in my progress
