*Sneed,* I thought, almost aloud. The nonsensical word ruminated in my mind. The first reply I got was *Sneed.* Accompanying the inane text was a JPG of those two Simpsons characters sitting on their front porch. One sat with his feet up, crosslegged atop the railing, holding a pipe and grinning smugly. The other, fatter one, quaffed a beer toward the background. Both wore red trucker hats. I was all too familiar with the image.
This was my effortpost. I went above and beyond the Bunkerchan slide thread guidelines. Of course they recommended that I keep it short – volume over quality – but my adherence yielded only dry spells. Dry spells punctuated by sage replies, anti-trans replies, *Sneed replies.* Faintly could I remember the last time one of my bait threads gained momentum. *The chuds are adapting,* I brooded to myself, *and I must adapt too.* That is why I meticulously crafted this effortpost.
*And they still replied Sneed.*
In a momentary lapse of discipline, I navigated my cursor to the reply number. My index finger made contact against the touchpad's gritty surface. Adrenaline coursed through my veins, then subsided. I felt myself breathe. That was close.
The timer was about to go off; I would let it. My eyes unfocused from the screen, then to my dialator below. *Never reply. Move onto the next slide thread.* I laughed, softly.

>When Homer gets out of his car and makes his way toward the storefront, he stands in for the philosopher walking down to the "Piraeus", as it were. On his way into the depths of ignorance--the storefront, recently overthrown by a pleasure- and gain-seeking oligarch by the name of Sneed--Homer is harassed by two citizens for appearing "out of style", so to speak, a clear reference to the daze, confusion, and mockery that Plato says the philosopher is subjected to when he first re-enters the darkness of the cave. Homer struggles to respond to their jibes, but is only able to leave them in a huff as he resolves to further explore the depths of this depravity and reach the heart of the matter--Sneed himself. The brilliance of this scene cannot be understated. By having Homer himself be "of the city"--a "cityslicker", if you'll forgive me the vulgarity used by one of his interlocutors--the Simpsons writing team flips the paradigm on its head, implying that Homer himself dwells not in just any old corrupt city, but the very City in Speech itself, made manifest. Whether he succeeds in his encounter with Sneed will be explored in my next video.
