What is Baudrillard trying to say in Simulation & Simulacra? From the little that I understand I get that we live in a world where the line between the sign and the signified becomes blurred and that the simulation has become "hyperreal" which is more real than reality itself, but I am still confused with alot of the stuff in this book like the part where he says that "Everything is metamorphosed into its opposite to perpetuate itself in its expunged form" Is he saying that the negation of the simulation only preserves it?

The Ukraine war did not take place. The Russians refuse to actually win (as they also refused in Georgia, and further refuse any sort of treaty in Transnistria and Nagorno-Karabakh), and the Americans won't let Ukraine fire on any targets inside Russia (which can evidently be captured within hours by ex-covincts armed with soviet surplus, i.e. what Ukraine was fielding a year ago anyway).

But for the West history is indeed pretty much dead or at least has dissapeared. Look at the redditification of the present conflict.

The masses can only understand conflict through memes and the empire of the "good" vs the bad guys. Nuance is dead in the west, meanwhile Putin, an old style dictator has to present the geopolitical realities to his people through a televised adress (first initiated by Kennedy) , at the same time western "leadership" has vanished behind news sites, economic warfare, and disinfo on the internet. This is why non-Westerners see the the US especially as the great Satan and the empire of lies, they can barely even understand it.

Not to fedpost or anything, but I was reading his essay "Agony of Power", and is Baudrillard saying that terrorism is the last remaining legitimate form of antagonizing the virtual world order of the West? More or less upping the "symbolic" stakes untill one side collapses in exhaustion?

His main point is power generates necessarily its own resistance. So does that mean that by upping the stakes to the absolute fatal point would the current hegemony be unable to match these stakes?

He's not about fake media and arts etc. but actually a platonistto whom simulation applies to everything while denying the platonic forms.

So why does everyone make him about some hollywood, News Media etc fearing randomness?
