I'm on a Sloterdjijk reading spree these few month.
Finished critique of cynical reason, Wunderbaum, Spheres 1-3, you must change your life. Next up are Zorn und Zeit and the capital one. Maybe stop for Eurotaoism.
I'm seriously considering going even further into his work since pretty much every book was quite a good experience.
Once day when I worked through big parts of his bibliography, maybe I will finally create a /lit/ chart for an author that has actual in-depth insight.
But that is still quite some time away.

Children MUST be insulated from outside forces there is no other way around it since the moment they are born, they are completely helpless. For humans this more important than any other species on the planet. A human mother would have to go pregnant for 20+ month until a child would have the same skills as a newborn chimpanzee, A newborn deer that can walk within moments of his birth is an entirely different magnitude of self-sufficiency right from the get go.
This early development that is intrinsic in all of us is one of the reasons why we all seek to enter again that place where we are cared for, giving birth to the first concepts of family, clan, city, nation.
And even after a child leaves family and seemingly goes into the wide world it is still within boundaries where it is being cared for.
Sloterdjik talks about this phenomena a lot in his main work Spheres and uses it to construct a, in my opinion, pretty solid system to describe human relationships.
Our evolution basically makes it impossible to not be molly-coddled up until a very high age.

Exposing a child to harsh realities can mean a lot of different things and probably happens even in the families with the best intentions. What constitutes as a positive "trauma" and a learning experience is very much up for debate and but all in all I would say it's not very helpful to deliberately toss a child into situations of extreme emotional abandonment and helplessness.

I start feeling like I'm morphing into the Guenonfag but for Sloterdijk because I'm shilling him so hard recently.
But seriously though, best German thinker since the last few decades and still writing stuff.

Limit your radius of people and things you are compassionate about.
You are probably propelling yourself into seething hatred (totally understandable) watching western culture collapse into a sea of shrill politics and screaming. On the other hand you actually feel compelled to help your fellow man as we all are.
This division is quite normal because the current time makes it increasingly hard to separate what is outside and what is inside your environment. The media, only accelerated by computers, smartphones and lastly Twit*r has made it increasingly easy for agitating forces to invade your life and disrupt it. It always seems like the enemy is right in front of your gates.

Also, some anon suggested that i read the Critic of Cynical Reason because it criticized pessimism or something along those lines but i got nothing from it. As usual i was more interested in the writers/thinkers he mentioned and his writing style is accessible so i pirated epub versions of the Spheres Trilogy and and the start he says that he tried to write a companion to Being and Time, Being and Space he calls it.
Have you read it? what did you think of it?

He's probably the most important philosopher currently active. So how come he's never talked about on /lit/?
