What does it mean to be grown up? To be an adult? I'm 23 and yet, I still feel like a child who's yet to take on this world.

I don't read self-help or any middle-management scum shit about being more successful. Perhaps it's a product of insecurity but the thought of people flourishing in a professional atmosphere makes me feel sick and spiteful. Figuring out why I feel this way is quite interesting to me, maybe I need a self-help book?

I pick up information well in the form of conversations and story's. Been thinking, what are some good stories that teach you something along the way? I know that's pretty general but I don't think that's an easy thing to actively look for when the focus of a book would be split one way or the other so one half of it's purpose will naturally suffer. Still, I want to experiment with my own learning style and pick up whatever I can. For example I'd want to read about how to do magic tricks and escape tricks but everything that comes up would be either a "how to" book or a story that happens to be about an escape artist with no love put into the mechanics of it.
Does /lit/ have any books they've learned a beginners knowledge skillset from? Lay it on me.

Ok /lit/, confession time for me. I have never read any actual philosophy. Never ever. I always thought it was unnecessary as I always adhered to my own set of beliefs, and the few writings I have glanced always seemed pretentious as fuck. Recently however, I dabbed a bit in Taoism (I have read the I-ching, the Tao de ching and the Zhuangzhi) and I was thrilled at the concepts and the way the authors expressed themsleves with such brevity and insightfullness. Should I go on? I am a bit afraid and I don't really know how to continue, so I am asking for your help, wise board.
