Life is good because there's pain and suffering. My suffering belongs to me, no one else. It's MINE. If suffering didn't exist and everything was a perfect utopia, I would instantly kill myself because there would be no point to living anymore, the same way you'd put down a water bottle once you no longer wish to drink from: there's no point in holding it anymore. I derive my pleasure and dignity from suffering. So I tell you, keep suffering. Suffer no matter what.

>Entropy is not a good thing. It is every man's moral duty to oppose it and hamper its pseudo-objectives. Physics, and the sciences that surround it, are long-winded experiments in internally justifying material cowardice.

you are equating height and it's magnitude to intellegence and it's measuremeant. It becomes very apparent how stupid this is when you think about how height is literally defined by measurement of distance whereas intelligence is relatively divorced from measurement. Perhaps my simple language baited brainlets into thinking they were worthy of conversation.

Read this. It's free. It's not a self help book, but it will help you to be conscious of what is happening to you. Start to distance yourself from the attention traps of the internet using whatever tools you can. I know I'm a hypocrite, telling you this while I'm browsing /lit/ instead of reading, but I'm slowly pulling myself out of this hole.

Let's get a list together - useful books for living in the modern world.

If there are enough contributions, we could make a chart.

I'm thinking stuff like logic; cognitive biases; assessing health product claims; understanding marketing tricks... basically anything that might be helpful in analysing everyday information.

You could even just make suggestions about which topics to cover.

Have I transcended existentialism, or am I just too stupid to understand it?

Most of the charts in the sticky haven't been updated in years. Reddit literature discusses almost the exact same mix of American pomo memes and classics that are popular on /lit/. People on 4chan seem actively hostile to authors they don't recognize, they'll respond by asking "literally who?" and imply that if they haven't heard of someone he must be unimportant. This board is such an echo chamber sometimes, it's gross.

I want you fags to make a new year's resolution not to read so many memes e.g. DFW, Pynchon, Gaddis/Gass/Hawkes/Mcelroy.

Today I read A Midsummer Night's Dream and books five and six of The Histories. Admittedly, the latter took me ~3.5 hours. I'm enjoying Herodotus, and I'm taking notes as I go along, but my question is: Is there a downside to reading taking up a majority of one's day?

How much time should I be setting aside to think about what I've read, or is thinking about it here and there as I walk from place to place or drive home enough? I go out with friends about once a week and the rest of my time is spent in the library, at the gym, or in bed, ready to sleep.

I have a to-read list of about 500 books on ms word. At my current rate, I should be done in about ten years. But that's not really accurate because some of the entries on the list are placeholders for an author's collected work or even a whole school of writing. I'll probably be set for reading material until about 2040 or so. If I keep adding stuff to it I'll never be done and I'll have to bequeath the reading list to the cloned children my sex-robot bore me.

Thanks /lit/ =]

I took a college psychology class in high school, and during a test the teacher came up to me and started raving about my essay on anorexia, and how it was a "PhD level paper!" It was my senior year of high school and she kept asking me what I would major in, which at the time I was too ashamed to admit that it was performance BFA. My English teacher would also ask to keep my assignments consistently.

I'm not a good writer, and I don't like writing. It makes me anxious and ultimately dissatisfied. The only form of expression I understand and am skilled at is acting, and nobody will ever take me seriously as an artist. STEMfags will of course think I'm dumb too, despite my school day lasting at least five more hours than theirs due to having rehearsals, not to mention that I have the same course load and amount of essays to write as the average humanities student. I don't know why I'm off topic and ranting like a fag, I just need somebody to understand right now. A-at least I'm handsome as fuck.

I pretend to like some books some times, to be honest, but I genuinely enjoy most of what I read and most of the time spent reading. It is a bit hard to avoid distractions like right now on the internet or video games, so I don't read as much as I have in better times. I would like to meet the kind of people who would interpret reading as a sign of intelligence and not some weird aberration. I'm at fucking college and nobody reads.
