I made this chart that is mostly just the last ten years of weird/horror short story collections.

If there is interest I can make a more general one. How far back should I go to still count as ‘modern’?

There are so many issues with that one. Chemistry is not a subject best approached from a historical perspective, nor is mathematics..

The 2010s were a golden age for short weird/horror fiction, here’s chart with a more or less chronological summary of the last decade and a half of collections in that genre.m

I included it in the horror charts I’ve made bc I liked his second collection Wounds, and bc that one won a bunch of awards. It also had a ton of good reviews on goodreads.

Those were the general criteria for inclusion when it came to books i hadn’t read. Had I read other work by the same author that was good? Had the book been nominated for either the Bram Stoker or Shirley Jackson award? How many reviews did it have on goodreads and Amazon, and what was the consensus score.

I’ve read at least some stories from a good portion of these, but definitely a bunch are there on the strength of their reputation.

I just started reading the Mark Samuels collection and it’s excellent so far. I think he’s the only writer who stands in the same league as Ligotti and Brian Evenson.

Here’s a chart of the 21st century Weird Horror Revival, most people don’t realize it but we are living in a golden age for horror short stories.

What are the best horror books of the last decade?

What stories are going to make anthologies decades from now?

It’s been a pretty good decade for weird horror, so here’s a fresh chart with the best collections of short stories.

What do you think the best recent weird horror books are?

Did I miss anything?
