I spent two years working on my novel you fucking shites.

Still reeling from a break up and I'm trying to put the pieces of my life back together, but doctors just found a mass in my dad's lung and scheduled a CT scan for next week and they found a precancerous lump on my mom's leg that they are going to try and remove.

I'm just in a bad place right now. I just lost my grandfather to cancer earlier this year and my dad never smoked a day in his life, I'm just praying it's benign but I can't help worrying.

Is anyone else getting disillusioned with reading? I've been reading almost as much as I could since I was a child. Now I have my first full-time job, which is just a shitty wageslave fastfood job because I have no skills or experience since I wasted all my time reading books.

I feel like literature has failed me here. Thinking about my favourite stories and poems isn't helping me at all. I'm more miserable than I've ever been in my life, and customers and employees are either cold or rude (and that bulshit about us all having our own wonderful unique stories in life doesn't help when you've got to take orders fast and get into deep shit when you fuck up). At the end of the day, I can only read for 20 minutes or so before I feel so tired I immediately fall asleep for 10-12 hours. Then I wake up and start the day having to go to work again first thing in the morning.

Literature loves to talk about all these deep themes about life and stuff, but I've never read anything that discusses the simple fact that most people spend most of their day doing mind-numbing shit they hate and that drains them.
