You said absolutely nothing besides a platitude to explain away the terrible nature of modern society as just something that happens, as if a people and a culture are just a plastic bag being blown around by the wind. The idea that generations, and indeed centuries, would be so radically different from each other and what came before is just a post-war cope to try and feel better about the alienation felt by everyone and the feelings of rootlessness.
