Here's a claim for you: "Jesus Christ rose from the dead."

>legitimate discussion of Hegel as an occultist ITT

I'm very impressed, I'm usually the one who has to bring up Hegel as a sorcerer on /lit/.

Anyway, the only proper antidote to Hegel is, actually, Christianity. What transcends the dialectic? It's God as man, who is man as God, who lives and dies and lives again. Hegel appreciates Christianity's power, that's why he tries to appropriate it. But it escapes him in the end. Christians can escape the tomb in ways Hegel tries to do; Christianity wins the battle against death, while Hegel's dialectic is only a kind of necromancy.

Christianity explicitly does not promise an end to suffering in this world, at least not until Christ comes again in glory. You can be mad about that, but I don't like this implication that the religion is somehow tricking people into thinking that belief in Jesus means no more suffering.

"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

You're fucking daffy. The entire basis for Christianity IS the Resurrection. What makes Christianity any different than Zoroastrianism, or one of the numerous other cults that popped up around the Jordan River and the desert at that time? Why did the cult Jesus founded survive and become a major religion, when all the others withered away? Isn't it obvious that it's because there's something about Jesus that the other cult leaders didn't have? Isn't it that he was able to present some evidence of his status that the other cult leaders couldn't? Why should anyone take a religion seriously except that its founder can provide evidence of something extraordinary?

The funny thing about Jesus is that he tends to not stay dead.

I became convinced that the Resurrection had to be true. Islam denies that the Resurrection is real, but for me it's too compelling and too powerful a thing to deny. Islam NEEDS the Resurrection to be false, but it simply isn't. And if the Resurrection is true, then all of Christianity is true.

Anyone who doesn't take the Resurrection literally misunderstands Christianity.

The moment you start to think about it as a symbol, or as a metaphor, you've lost the plot. Taking the Resurrection seriously is absolutely essential to understanding Christianity. It's probably the MOST essential thing.

So I guess I'll lump Jung, Nietzsche, and Peterson all together. At least Luther really believed that Christ rose from the dead.

It sounds like nobody in this thread is willing to confront the incredible reality of the Resurrection, and what it means for mankind.

Jesus literally rose from the dead. He is everything he said he was. That should fill you with awe and wonder and terror.

Because Christianity offers hope and love to a greater degree than any of the things you listed.
