Hi c/lit/. I just wrote this short story, and I'd like to know what you think of it :3

Waldo Jeffers had reached his limit. It was now Mid-August which meant he had
been separated from Marsha for more than two months. Two months, and all he had
to show was three dog-eared letters and two very expensive long-distance phone
calls. True, when school had ended and she'd returned to Wisconsin, and he to
Locust, Pennsylvania, she had sworn to maintain a certain fidelity. She would
date occasionally, but merely as amusement. She would remain faithful.
But lately Waldo had begun to worry. He had trouble sleeping at night and when
he did, he had horrible dreams. He lay awake at night, tossing and turning
underneath his pleated quilt protector, tears welling in his eyes as he
pictured Marsha, her sworn vows overcome by liquor and the smooth soothing of
some neanderthal, finally submitting to the final caresses of sexual oblivion.
It was more than the human mind could bear.
Visions of Marsha's faithlessness haunted him. Daytime fantasies of sexual
abandon permeated his thoughts. And the thing was, they wouldn't understand how
she really was. He, Waldo, alone understood this. He had intuitively grasped
every nook and cranny of her psyche. He had made her smile. She needed him, and
he wasn't there
The idea came to him on the Thursday before the Mummers' Parade was scheduled
to appear. He'd just finished mowing and etching the Edelsons lawn for a dollar
fifty and had checked the mailbox to see if there was at least a word from
Marsha. There was nothing but a circular from the Amalgamated Aluminum Company
of America inquiring into his awing needs. At least they cared enough to write.
It was a New York company. You could go anywhere in the mails. Then it struck
him. He didn't have enough money to go to Wisconsin in the accepted fashion,
true, but why not mail himself? It was absurdly simple. He would ship himself
parcel post, special delivery. The next day Waldo went to the supermarket to
purchase the necessary equipment. He bought masking tape, a staple gun and a
medium sized cardboard box just right for a person of his build. He judged that
with a minimum of jostling he could ride quite comfortably. A few airholes,
some water, perhaps some midnight snacks, and it would probably be as good as
going tourist.

Do any of you guys who read physical books just love the feeling of cracking open a book and turning the pages? To me it feels like an act of discovery, of immersion into whatever I'm reading. For instance, I used to read the Bible digitally but I ordered a physical one earlier today and I will undoubtedly feel as though the workings of the Universe are laid before me every time I open it.

For the past year I ate very simply, just things like chicken, sausage, rice, bread, pasta, etc. One meal a day, in the evening. Only seasoned with salt, maybe a couple other spices if I was feeling inclined. Never ate out beyond shitty dominos pizza. A month ago I decided to stop being a brainlet and eat more properly, and holy fuck I have a completely new appreciation for food. I'm so happy just to eat some cheese, or have jam with my bread, or have an apple, or a plum, or some caramelized onions. You don't realize how good these things are until you've been without them.

I still eat fairly ascetically though, I just can't break the habit. Still just one main meal in the evenings, I've managed to add a small meal in late morning but that's it. I want to try to eat more so I can get gains in the gym because right now I'm (despite being fairly strong) a skeleton from living at a calorie deficit for a year or more. It's hard though, feels gluttonous.

I went to the city library to work today and it was really comy desu. I sat up on a small floor with some work spaces overlooking a bunch of reference books, there was only one other guy there reading. I felt a lot more motivated to get stuff done and made some good progress on editing my novel and studying maths. Then I just sat and read for an hour before going home.

I think this will be part of my routine for now, I accomplished more in a few hours than I usually do in a whole day. I attribute it to the lack of distractions and the scholarly environment in general.

You know what's incredibly under-appreciated for ensuring your mental health? Having a comfy room. Yesterday I replaced my bulbs with warmer colored ones, put some posters and goodwill records up on the walls, added a small rug, and arranged my desk to look nice. I feel a lot better today desu.
