Not him but I'm so very glad you asked. The games' plots are very distinct so you can play them in basically any order. And despite what pseudo-hardcore /v/ermin will tell you, almost all of them are worth playing; the only genuinely bad Elder Scrolls game is Arena. Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim are the "modern" ones and are all fantastic, though Oblivion is the weakest of the trio.

Elder Scrolls lore is some of the deepest and most complex of any fantasy setting, and certainly the deepest in all of vidya. I'm pretty sure /tg/ still has weekend TES lore threads. The series' mythology is heavily influenced by Buddhism and Hinduism, and the guy behind much of it (Michael Kirkbride) is a big fan of psilocybin so the influence of that definitely shows up. The ingame books are often heavily biased to their authorship, so cross-referencing and research is needed to decide what is actually true, and because of the way the setting works what is true is determined by what is believed to be true, sorta. There are a lot of esoteric concepts involved that can't be properly explained without a lengthy discussion.

You're not wrong but then there's the part about how the Thalmor seek to negate Talos worship because he was a Man actually three people - Wulfharth, Hjalti Earlybeard, and Zurin Arctus that used the process of Mantling to attain divinity and so is an aspect of Lorkhan whose Heart is required to keep the flow of Time moving because it serves as an anchor to Akatosh's own Tower, and by unmaking Talos they would be able to take a first step into unmaking Lorkhan and thus reducing time from a river to a still pond to allow the Altmer to return to their pre-creation status of essentially liquid consciousness.
