Are there any other famous examples where an adaptation destroyed the source material and exposed the author as a fraud?

200 pages into the first one of these, and I'm really liking it. I hate fantasy, I've never seen the show and likely never will. But the book's good so far.

I love this series but I don't understand why it is considered Fantasy. 98% of the plot covered so far is medieval drama with war action here and there. The fantasy elements are mostly obscure prophecies and stories told by the characters.

Thoughts on these?

Will this series ever finish, ot at least advance a little? Why Martin shoot his own foot by turning the plot into an everexpanding clusterfuck from book 4 onwards?

are they at least entertaining?

I read them like a normie and it's comfy. sometimes I'll go entire chapters without processing any information

The Game of Thrones Books are my favourite fantasy series. They do such a good job of putting the show into novels. What else would you recommend?

I need some quick advice. I enjoyed Game of Thrones on HBO (through s4 anyways) and was wondering if I should read the books. I haven't read much fantasy beyond Jordan and Tolkien though and I'd also be concerned that knowing what happens generally would ruin it for me regardless and I'd be bored and end up wasting my time. Or should I just read the first book and see how I feel? What do?

If you have another fantasy series to suggest instead I'm open to that too

Let's be real here. George made this shit up as he went along. The first book is full of plot holes. Character motivations are never consistent. The only thing that makes this series interesting is the political intrigue in the style of Frank Herbert and the obvious real world historical similarities.

Since the first book, "A Game of Thrones," Martin has written himself into a hole of plot holes and short stories that don't tie together. Now he has spent 10 years unable to wrap this trash together into a coherent end.

Let's face it, the game is over George. However he concludes it (if he concludes it), it's going to be nothing more than disappointment begging more questions than answers. It's straight up bad writing hidden in a bunch of superfluous writing to make you forget what the hell is going on.

i never read books before so i never posted on /lit/ before, the 2 final seasons of game of thrones were such fucking trash that im wondering if the books are any good since i know they are quite different

Is this a good series to read if you’re lonely and have nothing else to do? I don’t care whether it’ll be finished or not.
Tried watching the show but I generally find screen adaptions less engaging, lacking in depth, and more boring than the books.

Am I the only one who finds GoT genuinely so fucking boring and tedious to both read and watch?
I don’t care for the dialogue, characters, nor the “world building” and Game of Thrones can barely even constitute as fantasy. The main theme of the series is medieval politics and drama.
Why does everyone rave about it?

I know it's consider pleb-tier here, but the house names and the world and everything is so cool and I can't find anything that gets close.
