Can't you just be honest about it? I mean, you'd be a dick if you didn't tell him the truth; and it would e his fault for being all haughty and mighty if he thinks that he can be beyond critique. I am writing my book for 5 months and I've grown a thick skin for critique because that's exactly how it should be, so if people told me it was trash I wouldn't even mind. It's just a fiction book anyway; I'm realistic and humble enough to not want everyone to like it and be all false about it.
