Wasn't Joss Whedon the Quip King that really made the Marvel movies synonymous with that kind of writing? He was born in '64.
I'm not necessarily saying you're wrong, I just think that's interesting.

Have many science fiction/fantasy writers committed suicide /lit/?
Off the top of my head I can only think of Robert E. Howard and James Tiptree Jr

The Meme Wolfe thread has been derailed by a puppy dittohead so I thought we might have a thread for that topic to saved discussion of /lit/s most beloved author

One thing needs to be clear:
There is no evidence whatsoever that there is a plot or agenda or conspiracy to push liberal/left/"SJW" works
This claim is made only on the basis that works that the puppies don't like have been nominated or won
And what don't they like exactly?
Women and minorities have been reading and writing SF for decades
SF has written about liberal/leftwing/libertarian/anarchist things for decades - centuries even
SF has written about race and gender and identity for decades.
The fact is the average SF reader is going to be one of these things or interested in these things.
And this is what the puppies are complaining about. Women and minorities being nominated or winning. "Liberals" (whatever that means, I'm not American and I find Americas use of that term to be very debased) being nominated or winning.
Things that are popular amongst SF readers have won a popular award?
Maybe its the puppies that are wrong?

Well works have won that I don't like, I don't think fantasy books should qualify and I think that while Jo Waltons Among Others was nice it was basically a Mary Sue that enamored a lot of people by name checking a lot of old SF&F
But I do not jump to the conclusion that there was an agenda to push the book
I see that a lot of other people did enjoy the book, and I can cynically see why, and I leave it at that
