Everything below is a cliche but is only a cliche because it is true

>Build a writing habit and write everyday. Even 300 words a day is over 100,000 words a year. Find what time works for you and make it sacred each day. For me it is an hour and a half first thing in the morning before work.
>Read more good literature. And then try to work out why it is good, or if you dislike it, try to work out why.
>Read widely as well. Don't constrict yourself to one genre or time period. Read Homer, Dostoevsky, and Hemingway.
>Don't pay too much attention to vitriol on this board. Authors people were blowing their load over five years ago are now hated, and authors that were hated are now loved. Obviously avoid anything that is clearly trash, but read authors like Vonnegut to make up your own mind. Even if you do dislike them, you will at least know why.
>The first page is the hardest. It will not be how you want it to be no matter how many times you rewrite it. Get it to 80% good and then move on. You will be in a much better place to polish it once you have written the rest of the book.
>When you are sitting at your desk and a sudden wave of self-criticism passes through you and you get the desparate urge to open a browser/pick up your phone/leave the room, just sit there and observe the feeling. Don't fight it. Let it pass through you. It will pass even if it takes five or ten minutes. And then you can carry on.
>Black coffee and Japanese Jazz gets me in the zone better than anything else.
>Pay attention to the place your ideas come from. I don't know whether it's my subconscious or something beyond me, but sometimes when I'm walking or in the flow of my work something takes over and gives me a word or a sentence or even a page of writing where I don't have to think about it analytically and it just comes. Learn to look out for that voice and listen to it. When it gives you something away from your keyboard write it down. I have a note on my phone full of stuff like that.
>The best ideas often come whilst walking.

By copying 1984, Fahrenheit 451 and other great works of literature, R. C. Waldun has managed to write a book that is almost unreadable, even for a meme. The prose doesn't flow, the world doesn't make sense, the characters are soulless stereotypes of stereotypes and you can clearly feel the places where the author self-inserts.

How can a literature student and avid book lover write something so bad. Not even mentioning the apparent 5 drafts and teams of editors...

>Our international publishing organization is currently looking for authentic and diverse voices to write about the experiences of trans or nonbinary BIPOC characters living in a multicultural and racially diverse medieval fantasy world in a novel series. All submissions must come from established trans or nonbinary BIPOC authors with the authentic lived experience of living in a multicultural and racially diverse medieval fantasy world. No unsolicited submissions. Please query first with a recent post-op photograph of yourself and a 3,000 word essay relating your personal experiences with navigating the feudal manorial system as a trans or nonbinary BIPOC. Peasants are preferred but we will consider craftsfolx and artisans with unique stories. Preference will be given to orcs and lizardkin, as your protagonist should share the same fantasy race as you, with "men" and "high" elves discouraged.

When did submission guidelines turn into this?

"NIGGERS could be here" he thought, "I've never been in this room before. There could be NIGGERS anywhere." The blowing fan felt good against his pink polo. "I HATE NIGGERS" he thought. Nelly's Hot in Herre reverberated his eardrums even as the $4 sparkling water fizzed down his powerful thick esophagus and washed away his (merited) fear of minorities in a creative writing classroom. "With a pen, you can go anywhere you want" he said to himself, out loud.

Set a 5 minute timer and write whatever you can in that time limit. Rate what I came up with. Point out sentence structure errors or whatever, or just things that don't seem right. Is it even good? If it's too short, I took some time to think my dues.

>Me and my companion were walking down the rocky pathway, there was a slight wind blowing from the east. As we progressed further down this path, the trees to each side began to grow thicker, denser, it sent a chill down my spine because I could barely see the sky above me as the branches were beginning to cover the sky. It grew colder, and we came across a large iron door, it was cold, it burned my fingertips the longer I left them on its handle.

I'm thinking of starting a blog where I share my shitty philosophical musings, political commentaries, and bits about my personal life; does anyone have any experience on writing blogs?

Also, anyone on Twitter?

Ok I sam that selfpublishing on amazon is the thing so I have an Idea. Im gonna take some existing book, rewrite it and change a bit and then put it on Amazon.

Here’s my strategy:

1.Set the price at 99 cents for the first week.
2.Run a 99 cent promotion with sites like Buck Books and Robin Reads.
3.Post a book excerpt on a relevant subreddit and link to your book page at the end.
4.Post 1-2 guest posts during the launch week that link back to your book page.
5.Blast your email list multiple times.
6.By the end of the week, hopefully, your book has eclipsed the top 5,000 or 10,000 overall paid ranking. From there, raise the price to $2.99, and continue raising the price $1 at a time every few days until it stops selling (then, lower it back by a dollar). This will tell you the optimal price for your book.

Anyone here in book industry? What will be perfect length of erotic novel/book?

Hey /lit/, I've started writing more. Just short stories and the like. I think some of the ideas are alright, but some of the flow is lackluster, and the form is dogshit. I know a lot of this will come with time, but do you guys know if there are any texts that could help with this?
Thanks

How do train yourself to break free of writing about the exact same topics every single time?

Oh my dear life
What the hell is going on
There's so much strife
There is something wrong
We need to fight enemies with a knife
Look out for the con
He is there with a chance on his sleeves
And his soul tortured by those ghosts
But quickly we can rise again
We can fight the old plans and the new
This is my destiny for you
If you only you could see to live beyond your dreams
