Guénon posters, please pray for me. I am spiritually, physically and intellectually weak. I once reached great heights and helped many here once upon a time. I hope you can lend the same hand in the dark that helped pulled Guénon out of the pit that he found himself in as a young man.

I am the initial author of this now-pasta and I am bittersweet to see it reposted. It pleases me to re-read it and to see others enjoying it to be sure, but I am upset to see how my mind has atrophied these past few months. I used to be able to craft posts like this on a whim, and have pleasure in doing so. I could not even do it now if I forced myself.

The blame lies on being singularly fixed on obtaining a job. A dead-reckoning, through search to application to the rare interview. I've surpassed the thousand mark, and have had no success. The daily ins-and-outs of searching the keyword of my major within 100 mile radius of my locality, and constant, constant, constant, checking of the the damned inbox.
And most every job that I had even an inkling of a chance, I would imagine a salary, and ways to spend my money. If you are abjectly destitute and hate your currents situation, this daydreaming is palliative, especially when you think that this isn't just fantasy but an actual possibility. Elaborate plans formulated. What-ifs wondered, conjectures conjured and phantasms pondered. Thoughts on what it would feel like to actually have spending money and what I was to buy. Even a hot meal. Yet, these dreams would soon wither as the window increased, communications desisted, and, altogether imploded when the coup de grâce of a rejection letter hit.

The poverty has already resulted in an entropy of my other habitats. Physical. Social. The electrical wiring in the room I live in no longer works. The window A/C does not work. The jalopy is kaput. The estrangement, or rather, total loss of once cordial relationships. The white whale of the job, has taken the final frontier of the mind out to deep sea. I neglected other pursuits. Interests. Peace of mind. Thinking all this grinding would bore me out to some far away Shangri-La. It did not. All I've managed to do is dig myself into a deep, dark De Beers mine, where I'm left mentally hobbled, unable to return or progress.

I'm not calling it quits. I will persevere to the bitter end.
But friends, I need money. Send some if you can.

Only tremendous suffering can temper it.
Renounce all your possessions. Sever ties with your family. Destroy your CV. Wander the wild for as long as you can and when you return, join a monastery.

This. Don't let people walk on you. Remain calm, civil, indeed even "polite", but being nice is always a mistake and sets a precedent for people to treat you worse and worse. Nice guys really do finish last.

False.
Securing a position that pays well boils down to nepotism and qualifiers on the basis of credential, not potential—outside of this, it's luck.
>B.S. (Preferably from Top University), M.S. preferred
>5-7 years direct experience
>3-5 Professional references
>MUST
>REQUIRED
>A MINIMUM
An HR rep of average intelligence wants their job to be simple and stress free. They are not going to take the risk of interviewing you if you do not meet these qualifiers, no matter if you profess exceptional skill or ability. Cover letters, whether sincere or aggrandized, are seldom read, and can even backfire if the HR rep dislikes a small detail or a word you used. Then, if you make it to the interview and state expert knowledge or profess intelligence, it is perceived as arrogance, or worse, if you make it on to the next stage, they fear for their own jobs if they really do think you're that competent. "Who the hell does this guy think he is?"........ "Not so great now ~[Sorry We have Decided to move on to other candidates]~ SEND".. Of course, someone who isn't an autist realizes this and adapts quickly. Intelligence and knowledge become a professianic secret, where they must be withheld until able to be concretely demonstrated, lest one be deemed a braggart, or delusional. Not speaking of work ethic, knowledge, or ambitions proved more successful than testifying of these things.
Mentioning menial odds and ends to explain the gap years is even worse. They view you working at say Citgo as being white trash Joe Dirt, too stupid and poor to get a real job, and certainly a sucker that will work for nothing.

And all to what end? Undergraduate degrees are highly proliferated, even among traditionally more lucrative fields of study. The higher the salary, the greater the nepotism. It's not what you know but who for the best positions. Unsolicited networking is not welcomed, especially whenever you lack clout, familial prestige, or even a nice vehicle to show up in. A few positions offered the paltry sum of $34k/year for highly skilled work. An insult.

All of this forced me to go back to school for another field, about 6 years ago, and my entrance was discouraging. For want of anonymity, I won't go into much detail but something as simple as securing a non-fellowship research slot before enrollment (so as to get free classes given the loan default), was fruitless for months.

I've lost every single one of my "friends" because of these sort of attitudes. Setbacks happen, and they impose real barriers and direct your focus on more immediate concerns, basic survival.
If you look good, speak well and possess intelligence, even more blame is levied against you. Stagnancy is ascribed to a disposition of laziness. Ironic, considering the grave misery of my past situation, left little room for relaxation—there was no games, no movies, no money to go anywhere or do anything—if examined, the accusers were lazier.

He knows reading is an illusion on a bus surrounded by stinky bus riders and is in a state of distraction. No amount of amphetamine could make him focus on anything but the existential dread of his situation, being a bus rider, surrounded by niggers, city bugmen, and superficial midwits like OP. This is why he looks out the window with a deep pang of apprehension about the whole ordeal longing for sigh of relief he will breath the moment he steps off the bus. The one to truly laugh at here is OP, for conforming to bus culture, in professing himself to be wise, he became a fool.
