Does it matter if you're here to talk about books? If they can't tell, why do you let it bother you? You're free to say whatever you want, without censorship, without fear of being stalked, and you're afraid to do so because people you don't even know, and who don't know you, might call you names? That's some severe paranoia. Only /pol/ is monitored by the three-letter agencies.
If you feel unwelcome, there's a thousand other websites that are heavily moderated and there sexism isn't in plain sight. Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence, however, moderation doesn't mean that the posters on reddit aren't sexist themselves. 4chan has zero filters, so Anons are just outspoken about their misogyny. Conversely, they might just be exaggerating to fit in with the edgelord culture.
