Stone edition would be fine. If you do want to read Gospels, fair enough, they are pretty interesting. Just go with Mark, its the oldest, and read it on biblehub where you can go verse by verse and see like twenty different bible translations at once. The epistles of paul are pure innovation imo.

First bible I read I just asked a Jehobahs witness where I could get bible and they gave me theirs. Its actually pretty good. Lots of appendices and relevant verses in the inner margins. Its definitely a cult but its super transparent so theres no danger.

Because Jesus didn't exist. Hes a literary fiction, a typological amalgamation of all the prophets of the hebrew scriptures. The "new testament" is written by the romans (the flavian ceasers) as a way of pacifying the jews and quelling their dissent.

I suppose the question has possible validity in terms of literary thematics. I think Nietzsche's interpretation of Christianity as a slave morality was based on a much more literalist reading of the gospel though.

This all aside from the fact of his megalomaniacal insanity and his sad projection and self deception.

The crucifixion is just an archetypal end for messianic figures of the time. Of course the jews of the time would have been angry. They were conquered, they forced a ceaser statue into the second temple and the Romans eventually desecrated it.
