Lolita is a love story. Some people think otherwise, and they would be wrong.

Here I was thinking Lolita is an innocent and adorable little girl when in reality she's early mature and promiscuous. I thought Humbert would be a relatable character, obviously he has a dark side but it's so well written the reader still roots for him but nah.

Why is it so popular?
Sure, it was a decent fap material but not something that I would describe as excellent literature.
I don't understand the hype.

What's /lit/'s opinion on moves of books, specifically watching the movie before reading the book? I'm going through Kubrick's filmography and have gotten to Lolita. I usually read the book first so my first experience with it isn't tainted by someone else's vision, but I really just want to keep watching the movies and was wondering what others might do in this scenario.

She seduces Humbert, right? How are people reading this differently? She' not a virgin, she had sex at the camp, so it's not like he's victimizing her. If anything, she manipulates him and then gets her just desserts.
