Society of the Spectacle is in the public domain, and it needs an updated cover. I propose this one.

How would you go about making a fiction book about a modern bugman consumed by silicon valley futurist insanity without just rehashing American Psycho?
That's what I want to do. Looking for inspiration.

It isn't essential, but he does speak at length in Marxist vocabulary (assuming some familiarity on the part of the reader) so it is very helpful to be acquainted with it and some basic history of gommunism. In this case, it is reasonable to get the cliffs notes on commodities, use-value/exchange-value from wikipedia, short david harvey texts/videos, etc. Some important dates:

1818: Marx born.
1820: Engels born.

1847-48: Marx and Engels align, fresh off the German Ideology collab. They reach out to various orgs including the League of the Just, forming with the latter the Communist League. Over a series of drafts and congresses, the two convince the org to adopt an official party platform: The Communist Manifesto. All of this occurs in the milleu of the 1848 French Revolution (not to be confused with others).

1865: End of American Civil War.

1867: Capital V1 (finally) drops, the only volume published during Marx's lifetime (the others are edited and published posthumously by Engels in the decade-ish following Marx's death.

1871: Paris Commune.

1883: Marx dies.

1895: Engels dies.
