Yes, it’s true. People in general think they’re free when they don’t have an authoritarian government, but they’re totally not slaves to the capitalists and the free market.

I wouldn’t say animal farm is for young kids.

It actually paints a picture that mimics what happened in Russia quite clearly, and a child would not understand this. It’s actually worthwhile to read as an adult, it goes into economic concepts like private property and surplus value that a child would not understand and would not remember.

>Napoleon = Joseph Stalin
>Old Major = Karl Marx/Vladimir Lenin
>Snowball = Leon Trotsky
>Humans = Capitalists/Bourgeoisie
>Farm Animals = Workers/Proletariat

By overthrowing the human farm owner, they abolished private property and began to run the farm co-operatively. This resulted in them making more for less, which was good (By eliminating the bourgeoisie, there was nobody stealing their surplus value resulting in them making more from the fruits of the labor) and so in place of the bourgeoisie, they elected snowball (Trotsky) and napoleon (Stalin) to represent them (Lenin a.k.a old major died around the time the revolution took place)

Everything was going great at first. The animals were working less and earning more. However, everything went wrong. Basically, Napoleon (Stalin) betrayed the revolution and drove snowball off the farm. He then created an authoritarian dictatorship and cult of personality around him and killing the farm animals that did not obey to his strict rules. My favorite part is when the farm animals said they could no longer tell the different between their farm and the capitalist farms. He had replaced communism with state capitalism.

What do you notice about this story?

It is NOT saying that communism is bad. It’s saying that Stalin is bad, and that communism would have worked if Trotsky had succeeded Lenin. Orwell was a socialist himself, and a lot of right wingers seem to not understand that part. It is pro-communism.

It’s clearly about the Bolshevik Revolution, and Orwell makes it kid-friendly by substituting all the people involved with farm animals. However, in doing this, he also removes the substance of the story. A child who is historically illiterate, will not understand the significance of what the story is about. A lot of adults don’t understand it either, as many of them interpret it as being anti-communist. That’s why I personally believe it’s an adult book.

Yessir.

Surplus Value is a very real concept and has not become irrelevant since the time of his death. Wage/Labour and Private Property are still just as relevant as concepts. The LTV May be a little outdated, but that’s about it.

Socialism can ONLY work in one country

Because pro-social behavior only works when there is genetic similarity between the members of society. Jewish (Marxian, Trotskyite) socialism, with its internationalist tendencies, only came about because when it was created Jews were a people without a nation, so they wanted everybody be the same. There is a autobiographical element in every philosophy.

PS: mods suck circumcised dick
