>Why am I seeing more and more of this bullshit?

Because people keep posting twitter screencaps (posting twitter screens should be a bannable offense)

Reminder that starting with the greeks is a meme and /lit/ usually recommends the most roundabout way of getting into any given topic.

>feels like self help crap

That's because it is.

He has some marginally interesting things to say about signifier theory but still nothing you can't get more cogently elsewhere.

LoTR or GoT are poor analogues to Berserk. It's less about the world and more about Guts and his ensemble cast. If I had to think of a similar western novel I'd say Berserk is closer to Soldier in the Mist.

Quality of the arcs and art and tone varies wildly. Localization can be awful.

Oh my goodness there he goes twirling around and around and around and giggling to himself like a madman right there in the middle of water. You know that salty bitch is begging you challenge her and drown and you might be right happy to oblige when you feel hundreds of years of nautical literature and man's great fascination with the sea all of it comes crashing down right atop your head. Oh that's right you took a drug you silly goat that's why everything looks so dang breathtaking and here you are insufferably narrating this happy drama that is your life in what you thought Jack Kerouac might sound like on and on and on and on. Yes we're all aware that you're all aware that we're all aware that you're all aware that we're all aware that you're all aware that we're all aware that you're all aware -- yeah, yeah we get it it's turtles all the way down and the big secret is to not get caught up in the recursive nature of things because it's all a game and you took a drug.

Is there a curt turn of phrase that can shut this down? Historically it's easy to btfo of people who cry 'muh dark age' but I have no idea how to engage with people who think religions are the cause of all wars.

His Biblical lectures interesting. His takes on Jung are trash. He speaks 'wisdom' that was common sense 50 years ago, but forgotten today because of comfy Western liberal capitalist democracy.

I'm also exactly 50 pages into On the Road and I find it rather charming. What don't you like?

Temple of the Gold Pavilion is also sitting in my stack waiting to be read.
