A man who shuns all hedonistic, deplorable, or painful things in life will have no "armor" against them the day they unexpectedly present themselves to him. He won't know how to handle them. Like calluses on the working man's hands, the man who willingly steps and slowly into the cave is prepared and will see, but he who falls in will be completely blind. Likewise addict or hedonist who turns to extreme asceticism will, indubitably, fail his attempted self-improvement: he'll crash harder. One must reward oneself every once in a while; or alternatively: the rulers of a city must allow festivals every once in a while where the people are let loose.
Live in chaos and you will crave order, live in absolute orderliness and the smallest taste of abandon will collapse the illusory structure that is your life.
Being is the in-between the Indefinite and Definite, Matter Enformed; reality is always hylomorphed Becoming never fully unleashed nor does the Monad make all Static. The kingly-soul must always challenge himself.
