For me its 25% Lust, 75% sadness for humanity.

Any happiness we manage to find when mating is entirely accidental. Our pairing choices are made on a short term genetic basis: "She's the hottest woman I can manage to fuck and marry/he's the man with the best access to resources for my children." Serious long term incompatibility is completely swept aside by "lust" and "love".

Example: imagine her offering herself to any man; the man would be considered gay or at the very least mentally strange to turn her down.

Another example: how often do you see a couple where one is very very attractive, and the other is "ugly". It rarely happens and when it does its noteworthy; we instinctively know how to sort ourselves, genetically, and any deviation is considered nonsensical. Imagine a supermodel marrying a 5'5" unemployed man, or Elon Musk marrying a 50 y.o. grandmother. ("ugly" being a combination of genetic endowment and material wealth, heavily weighted towards the latter for men, and towards the former for women)

We're just so eager to get our tiny lives permanently tangled up with each other, with so little forethought, and based on the shallowest motives, that we delude ourselves into thinking them profound in the short term. We're run by an instinctual algorithm that has no concern for our psychological well being. And then we're mystified in 5 years when the relationship is failing. We're still just overgrown children, having sex with each other and making more children.

>t. 40 y.o. boomer, married to hot chick, still hot, threatens to suicide 4x per year...I never thought I would reach the point of numbness and apathy, but 20 years will do that to love, as water wears away a stone
