Fuck me, why didnt I start reading philosophy years ago.
Thanks Hannibal Lecter
Im going to read his works many times on the advice of Marcus himself, but where should I go after him? Plato?

Where is the line in "virtue" supposed to be drawn exactly? Can't it be argued that doing anything which benefits you is unvirtuous? For example, if I leave an abusive relationship, won't it be unvirtuous of me because it has caused my abusive partner pain? How the fuck should I reconcile this difference? Isn't Stoicism basically advocating for extreme passivity and never demanding anything for yourself? This has been really weighing on me because I'm pretty convinced by stoicism, just don't know how to deal with this conundrum.

Yes. Its also the most based book you will ever read. All other philosophy is made for those with elite genetics and birthright, whose destiny is untold greatness. Meditations is for the average man just trying to cope through life without killing himself.

"Just because you’ve abandoned your hopes of becoming a great thinker or scientist, don’t give up on attaining freedom, achieving humility, serving others, obeying God."

Normalization, at least what I call it anyways. We can only understand and think of things as comparisons. The notion of "gud" or "bad" is a false perception.

In other words, humans are incapable of being "happy" at all times. It is objectively impossible to do so as our minds and bodies will adapt to any effects or situations thrown upon us. So the "pursuit of happiness" is a pursuit of end of a rainbow, or "chasing the dragon". Accept suffering and look for it, then you may find happiness.

Why did the stoics think that ignoring insults is better than delivering some sharp badass one liner as a comeback? Were they too slow/stupid to come up with their own witty retorts?

think of it this way anon: eventually when you die you'll return to the nothingness that was before your birth, essentially at perfect harmony.

There's nothing to be afraid of anon :)

Anybody else dislike meditations by Marcus Aurelius? The language and analogies are outdated and the book can be said to be inefficient and unnecessarily long full of mundane and obvious advice...

Marcus Aurelius is better, more sophisticated and consistent with his meditations

We are social creatures and so part of our means is interacting with others. How would the stoics react to disparaging public insults?

I've already read Meditations, The Enchiridion, the Dhamapada, and am about to finish Beyond Good and Evil. What is the best next step?

>brah just be kind to people who treat you like shit. They can't really do you any actual harm and besides they can't really help themselves.
Yet he writes that doing others Ill is sinning against Universal Nature and makes the person doing it evil. Also human life is just a blink of an eye in eternity. So how about instead of being kind to assholes even if they be your fellow man you just kill them so their useless retard monkey nigger bodies return to Universal Nature™ and hopefully become something useful like oh idunno, dirt?

So basically I have nothing to do this summer so Imma spend it translating some latin texts.
I'm average, I know Ovid and Seneca are beyond my reach.
So, is Meditations a book that someone who is not that good at Latin will be able to read?
If not, recommend something yourself.
