Hey man, i have been thinking about the same thing for a time now just form reading a few books and was deep in the rabbit hole of being just retarded.

as stupid as this might sound, I'm glad i saw someone thinks exactly the same. there is no reason to derive any lessons from fiction since the writer can change the outcome no matter the action leading to it.

If you don't mind writing on your book, highlighting the most important part of each paragraph not only makes you memorize the content better, but also allows you to skim over quicker by reading just your marked passages. It might feel awkward for fiction as opposed to practical books, but it all depends on your approach to whatever you're reading. I think this strategy also makes you more invested in a book because you have to think first what's the main gist of a paragraph.

I like to focus on lessons the author tries to convey, whether through a character or directly, so I got into this habit of highlighting books.

I'm exactly at this spot. Instead of self-harm I've picked up weight lifting and reading philosophy (something I've been interested in but never delve deeper).
Your picrel speaks IMMENSELY to me. I am convinced it's important to stay joyful and help out people who are not, because in the end, those who are sad are just lost and need to see the way out.

Your post is helping me out of a hole, knowing how you've gotten out of it successfully, but I think you shouldn't choose aggression but confidence. You certainly have it, you just choose to show it a different way.
