How can one man be so incredibly kind, intelligent and thoughtful, and still be overshadowed by a seething, lazy, violent idler?

Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present

THE SUPREME REDDITOR'S GUIDE TO RUSSIAN LITERATURE!

https://archive.org/details/russianliteratu00krop
(You can choose any other version of the book on archive.org.)

Pros:
— Author is an educated Russian nobleman who genuinely loves Russian literature.
— A perspective from one hundred years ago, with a personal touch.

Cons:
— Author belongs to that progressivist type I mentioned in my caption. He judges the *ideas* he sees in art, and evaluates its *social effects*. He attributes it to a certain sociopolitical period all too tightly. While not as asinine as Dobrolyubov or Pisarev (whom he, and many of his contemporaries, considered worthy as an opposite to official squalor), he spectacularly misses the point of… but I shouldn't spoil it.

It's a fast read, go get it.
