For example, w could include both Max Stirner, Slavoj Zizek and so on and then find a unifying theme (something like NEETdom, 'post 9/11 depression) to connect the stories in a labyrinthine manner?

Engels says that he confessed to him about living for others. Engels was a Marxist, and Stirner was an apolitical individualist, so it's possible he was trying to slander him for class purposes. But at the same time, altruism is a reoccurring subject in Stirner's work, and we're all probably familiar with the infamous chapter in "The False Principle of Our Education"

One account of this is mentioned in one of Stirner's biographies. If I recall correctly, so the story goes, there was an anonymous volunteer event (I believe perhaps to foster public morality , or somewhere in that goodness range) which was being severely chastised by the communists or socialists, and he wrote an article on its behalf that led to the event being funded by the state. Some time afterward, he saw it functioning in Hippel's Wine Bar and asked how he could help, and well, you can guess the rest. Later, he calls on Engels, who I believe was a bitter enemy of his at the time, to come to his house and he confesses all this to him. Engels was disgusted, and when Stirner saw the look on his face, he said something like "you cannot possibly hate me as much as I hate me!" From what I remember, the biographer seemed to believe this confession took place but thought Stirner was lying about it because of some weird selfless complex he has, which seems like a stretch to me. I don't know whether or not he actually confessed this to Engels, but if he did, I'm inclined to believe he was telling the truth. I mean, who the fuck lies about being upstanding?

Another thing... I recognize this has a lot less credibility, but probably like 6 or 7 years ago, I read a post on reddit from some guy claiming to be in contact with people from Schopenhauer's estate and supposedly they had letters or diaries backing up the claim that he had dedicated his life to others. According to him, Stirner had some weird belief that putting others before himself "cleansed" him in some way. I assumed this guy was lying, but the only reason I didn't totally write him off is because when I messaged him for more info, he sent me a link to a translated version of some German website where the leader of the Mooprole Union (1st ever worker operated milkshop, who supposedly rejected a marriage proposal by Stirner) claims he talked about doing this when he was alone. This sounds like a very spooked thing to do, but at the time, altruism wasn't viewed the same as it is today, and in particular, altruism for the national state wouldn't have been viewed as racist (see the depiction of the servant, the family man, a patriot, in "The Ego and Its Own"), so a solitary meme talking about this throughout the morning shave wouldn't have been that unusual given his lack of value system.

What do you guys think? Have you heard anything about this?
