Ulysses

Why can't I find a way to publish my fucking book? I'm trying to tell a huge story, a big sci-fi story but hopefully also a literate one. I'm two books in and almost with a short story tacked on, too. I'm trying to find a home for the first book but it's like pulling teeth. I've only gotten one semi-positive response from any of the agents I've queried. I had a small press say they liked it but it was too long. I don't think I could even come close to cutting it to the extent they need. I'm just frustrated. I feel like writing this story is what God wants me to do. But the writing is actually the easy part. I feel very comfortable writing it. Getting it out into the world has proven to be a lot harder. The longer I go on the more I am tempted to self-publish, especially serially.

That's based Anon. As a general rule nobody recommend the OP anything complex or intricate. Don't throw the Summa or the City of God at him. He's a beginner, he needs stuff for beginners. If he wants the deeper cuts of Christianity he can read those later, when he's further in. Christianity is a religion for both the simple and the brilliant.

Honestly, if they can't obey, they SHOULD leave. This isn't some social club, it's a religion. You can obey the rules or you can get out. And those who stay can rebuild the Church. We'll probably even get more converts to help out.

I'm a practicing Catholic and I have become strongly convinced that the Sacrament of Confession is one of the greatest gifts God has ever given mankind. I think He gave it to us to help us be sane. I suppose He could have us confess our sins and receive absolution for them in some other way. But I think He knew that it is good for us to speak our crimes out loud, and our evils out loud, and to be stricken of them out loud by a human voice.

Do you ever consider that therapy, psychiatry, is a kind of hollow pantomime of Confession? The therapist stands in for the priest. But the therapist lacks the power that the priest has through God. The therapist cannot act In Persona Christi. He cannot absolve, he can only diagnose and comment. And this is why therapy can never wield the power that Confession wields.

I'm actually tearing up thinking how happy I am to have access to Confession. It is very beautiful. Like a purifier for the soul. A washing agent.

To be a saint, and a great figure, and to fill the world with joy and beauty. To wake up many things that were thought dead. To do the impossible.
