How the fuck do people write a consistent story over 50,000 words? I can only bring myself to write snippets of scenarios, and tend to lose focus and direction after 1k words.

Everything I try to write just turns into self-indulgent introspection.

There's no story, no point, just pages on pages of a "character" reflecting on themselves.

How do I not do this? How do I write something entertaining that is not just some boring character piece about myself?

I thought if I wrote enough of it would clear up some space in my mind and I'd be able to write something fun, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
