To them this meme isn't funny because it's absurdly low IQ, it's funny because they agree that lil timmy niglet be wildn n shiet tryna read a "book" like he some white boi? As well, I wouldn't trust the nominal rates for literacy. I think most everyone is legally obliged to pass highschool but you see graduates that can't read labels but instead shop by looking at pictures, picking things that are familiar. Even "literate" self-employed people can have trouble grasping a compound sentence.

How do we fix America's illiteracy crisis?

Can you guys sell me on (auto)biographies? I can get reading the work o authors, but the idea of reading about their lives never really appealed to me, as I always thought a quick skim on Wikipedia and its sources was good enough. Is it just because I'm not really a non-fiction type of person? What books should I read to become more willing to read non-fiction?

I'm not talking about reporters, politicians, and theorists(Marx, Rand, and Freud) but just regular authors. I think African-American literature is better than jewish literature in this regard. Just seems strange to me. Pls no ban mods.

What percentage of American young adults (18-25) do you think are literate enough to read/comprehend a relatively simple book (ie Animal Farm)?

When did reading become seen as 'uncool'? At my high school, and even to some degree in college, saying that you read for fun would make others look at you as weird.

Any anons have experience with this?

Serious question: do people in inner-city schools actually get bullied for reading? Any anons here who went to shitty schools wanna weigh in?
