Homer, Ovid and Virgil wrote in Dactylic Hexameter. Shakespeare wrote sonnets in Iambic Pentameter. Dante wrote in Terza Rima.

Perhaps the greatest writers of all time did not know how to compose in free verse. Surely the opposite cannot be true.

Which writers have the best prose in terms of sheer beauty? For me it's either Flaubert or Proust.

I’ve heard all the arguments for lot on intellectual and spiritual grounds. Convince me on strictly material ones.
