"too much input" is just cope from failed languagelets.
basic grammar is largely considered the hardest part of lots of languages. people shy away from romance languages when they are shown the wall of all the verb conjugations for every possible gender/plurality/etc. but, if you read, you come to understand that all these things take a similar "shape" and won't worry in the same way as when you see that table.
There's a time and place for studying, but imo it's better early on to merely become acquainted with the "shape" of things so you can take more of it in, then refine it down the line (this will happen anyway as you read more).
Same applies for irregular verbs or other things. Usually they're so common that a few days worth of reading makes it a non issue. But, depressingly few language teachers will ever tell you this or encourage this sort of study.
