Yeah i got some similar experiences back when i was with a Trotskyist group in a very progressive Dutch student city. Barely anyone read Marx, and it felt like i constantly had to walk on egg shells. There were a couple of people from worker backgrounds and another couple who wanted to interact with workers, but they were the exception, and it seemed like idpol had completely consumed everything. And unlike idpol on the right, this idpol completely stifled anything resembling a mass movement.
It's the same almost everywhere. I dont feel like there's anything resembling a socialist movement left. The Socialist Party in the Netherlands is just socdems now and all the 'radicals' are either just LARPers who'd piss their pants if they had to do something violent, or wealthy radlibs who have some weird fetish for being oppressed. And like you said, online politics is much, much worse, since a particularly nasty strain of American idpol has come to dominate everywhere and is now also seeping into IRL.
I felt like Mussolini when he despaired in WW1 and broke from Marxism and founded fascism, although i didn't go that far. I did take the Spenglerpill, though.

Hey /lit/, im looking for books on two particular topics.
One is the topic of legislation, law and constitutions in openly dictatorial countries, preferably ones that werent banana republics (so Nazi Germany, the USSR, PRC, DDR, etc.). Ive had a primer of Carl Schmitt, but im mostly familiar with his work on philosophy, not him as a jurist.
The other is literature on the evolution of warfare, especially from WW1 to the modern day.
