How good is this guide?

Is Mythology by Edith Hamilton still the best place to start?

Like many others have said, start with the Greeks. Pic semi-related. I’m in the same boat as you, and been taking it slow. Almost done with Mythology. I’ve been having trouble choosing what translation/publication to read, but I hope to make a wise decision once I get to Herodotus, Sophocles, and the philosophers.

I finished reading the Bible so achieved my New Year’s resolution and currently starting with the Greeks. It’s been hard due to working everyday, but I hope to finish pic related by the end of the year.

Is there any point to reading a lot of philosophy if you aren't very intelligent? My understanding is that by studying philosophy and weighing the worldviews of many, you are able to achieve a unique and educated stab at your own worldview. Whenever I read a new school of thought, I am convinced until I read the counter arguments. I think this is due to the fact that I'm a mid wit. I can have a lot of information in my brain but I don't have the fluid intelligence to actually manipulate and apply that knowledge to make nuanced observations and conclusions. I just kind of become a sheep to whayever philosophy I read and always question what is actually true and right. It seems like those around me are so sure in their perceptions and for me it is the opposite. I have read through the curriculum starting list provided for /mu/. Thoughts?
