It's the age when you have just enough life experience to comprehend the world around you but there's still some of that youthful energy and bravery to take risks. If you're still a mediocre bugman or talentless failure in your early thirties, chances are you are not going to make it.
I only decided what sort of man I need to become in my late twenties, and couple of years later I'm starting to see results, even minor recognition.

Disclaimer: I'm not a teenager, just unintelligent.
And recently, all my thoughts have basically been occupied with cynically tracing every act of altruism into some form of egoistic gain. I cannot possibly see how a relationship (and love) is anything but compromise to easily achieve egotistical goals (conscious or subconscious). I cannot see how friendships are "pure" when they seem to be predicated by social ability.
Nobody wants to be friends, or date someone with no social ability. How is friendship not just compromise for protection, or in some lopsided cases, entertainment? How is a relationship not just compromise for procreation/sexual pleasure? Sure, they're reinforced by emotions we don't understand, but it makes sense why we'd have an internal guiding system to make us more likely to keep at it.
Now these thoughts might be worth having, and I bet plenty of people lived by these egoistic principles and achieved things. But I want out. I don't want to have these thoughts as they will seep into my dwindling relationships and express themselves in a way where I end up fully alone, or just a bitter asshole. I'm even struggling with my faith, which hasn't been an issue in a long time.
Are there books, literature, poems, fucking anything that might help me on my journey to cure myself from egoism? Even philosophy, as long as it isn't too complicated might do.
I did my best to cut out all the diary/bloggy stuff, but I feel some had to remain to help me illustrate my point.

Where does this meme come from? It is Peter, after being visited by the Holy Spirit, who decides that Gentiles can be Christians. It's his church in Jerusalem who sends a letter to the Gentiles that basically says "you don't have to follow Jewish Law". It's in the Bible itself (the first half of the Acts tells all of this).
