Isn't Thomas Pynchon primarily a highly select literary secret society? A Knopf editor confided to me the Pynchon syndicate is responsible for a great deal more than what's been published under the name "Thomas Pynchon." It seems like they're a strategic literary reserve keeping certain arts alive even if most of the market is elsewhere.

I want to know which Baltimore restaurant staffs a literary prodigy on its front of house staff. Imagine art history herself, "Hi, I'm Peg, I'll be taking care of you today along with Ian," (inaudible to Ian), refilling without any iota of detectable judgement your water, iced tea or foamy cold one, at most only laughing along with table commentary but never initiating, "Peg don't start shit" you can imagine Megan Ebonicizing to herself in that way the least melanated women cannot help themselves and so Meg considers its all the better she is engaged in simplicity and service and can avoid the nettles of being human by gearing herself into the needs of another, helping you discern between appetizers and sides and salad dressings, drawing her face sincerely near to where a customer points inquisitively, near enough that the ear crackles from a picosecond's salivary obscenity preceding earnest speech, Peg appears serene inhabiting her guests' nerves per the menu and doesn't miss a conversational beat, "I shall ask the Kitchen!" Peg would announce and past Megs teasing her waitress monologue the entire way, she would strut her sincere self into the whisking sizzling kitchen, braced the entire walk by those odd wavess of hyperawareness that sometimes struck they seemed to fade in the wake of the kitchen noise, and in the same voice that chided and chortled and choked our jokes and witticisms and trenchant poppy quips Peg calls out to the wooshing line with a guarded monotone, "hey, dudettes n' germs, Are the cooking surfaces vegan?"
