How do you justify your inaction when it comes to "improving the general living conditions". I had a friend who put all her energy into alleviating the suffering of the poor and the vulnerable. Of course, she not only wanted to improve the local conditions, but also to fight the political and economic injustices and abuses.

For my part, I only look at my own life. I live in a bubble, so to speak. I don't think about the suffering of other people besides my family and friends and I don't come into contact with those who are suffering (except for the odd beggar roaming around in the city centre).

My unwillingness to help the poor, let alone the third world, is so great that I have begun to develop a pro-slavery (and pro-exploitation) stance based on Aristotle. All in order to be able to live according to my concocted system of greek and roman virtues without getting into a self-contradiction by living in an exploitative society.

Do you have your own coping techniques for living in the modern age, where you try to be virtuous but do not want to have to help everyone? There has to be some value boundary between humans and subhumans/slaves/tools.

It was obvious the story was about yourself after the first few sentences. It doesn't sound interesting, but as you say, a lot of it comes down to execution, and if writing this will make you feel better than that's enough to give it a try.
I would change the ending to something less cliched. Just reading

makes me groan. Maybe you should tone it down.
