When I was around 11 or 12 my mother drug me out of my room while I was playing vidya to read a passage in the bible she must have taken a real liking to.
I didn't really care about it or religion in general. She put a bad taste in my mouth with it because we were constantly going to different churches every Sunday due to her paranoia that people were talking bad about her behind her back. To give some context.
Anyway, I read the prayer aloud, don't for the life of me remember what it was, and as soon as I finished the words I felt a warmth inside I never felt since. It was like a pure heat spreading throughout my body, akin to setting next to a fireplace in winter.
I'm not religious to this day, but that certainly left an impression on me. I know the more areligious will chalk it up to the environment etc. etc. but at the time all I cared about was going back into my room to play vidya, I don't feel like I was in the headspace to trick myself with feelings of divinity.
>Do Christians only believe in a loving God because of the psychological comfort and emotional support such a belief provides?
So to answer your question, yes, and I can understand why.
