As for sparing the young virgins, if you read the scriptures and understand the society they came from, this means they were either especially innocent, or especially pure. Neither of these happen in the scriptures. The first is especially ridiculous. The second is ridiculous because there's a legitimate need for the death penalty, and when those people are killed, it's not murder.
