Brainlet take. The film is littered with over-the-top child-tier "spooky" references. Kubrick hits us over the head with it, because that's how he wants it to be. He makes it perfectly obvious that "this will be a scary movie" throughout, in part to deflect from the deeper themes, whatever one may take those to be (Danny's abuse, the horror of American settlement, the faked moon landing in the more fringe territory, etc). I didn't mention it in my last post to the OP's question but I'll do it now. In the film, an early scene has the family discussing the Donnor party, so look them up too OP. Pic related is my list of all the musical cues in the film, just because I feel like posting it.

The real worst "spooky" cut is when Wendy runs back into the lobby and it's full of skeletons.
