I believe that it's the hyperawareness of the possibility that anything can go wrong in a given situation, and in order to avoid being adversely affected, you constantly need to plan and adapt yourself to keep those fears in check.

Someone in my class said that I might have confused pessimism for cynicism, but I believe that cynicism is just a symptom of the former. To my understanding, cynicism is the inclination to believe that people act solely out of self-interest.

I hate optimism, because it can make you blind and unaware if you have too much.
