I heard this comedian speak on The New Yorker Radio Hour. Here's the related written piece:

I think she makes some good points about what comedy does for many audience members. She also shows how satire can create complacency or something like that...I think there's something too it. More and more people get their news and ideology from comedians these days. We're entertaining ourselves to death.
