So, I finished Dune.

All around a pretty underwhelming experience and I honestly don't get the extreme amounts of praise for it. It had some cool moments, but those cool moments weren't really worth about 500 pages of slogging through.

+ Paul is an entertaining character, especially towards the end
+ Fairly interesting setting
+ The dialogue and character interactions were decently well written

- Badly paced, builds up for an extremely long time just to resolve the conflict in a dozen pages
- Boring, uninspired prose
- Undeveloped, uninspired characters aside from Paul/Jessica
- Minimal sandworm action, which drew me to the book in the first place
