The flood event described in the Book of Genesis also has the effect of creating an alternate universe where the teachings of fallen angels, i.e. alchemy, survived. After the failure at the Tower of Babel, which was an attempt guided by the fallen angels to open a portal between the two realities and then force a way into heaven, there is eventually a great war wherein all the alchemists and practitioners of other arts are wiped out. Fast forward to circa 1900, MC lives and works in a grain commune in a poor country controlled by a larger federation (he is lucky enough to get work at a steel mill during the winter to help pay for food since the government confiscates most of the grain). MC is actually the mortal host of one of the fallen angel's spirits, which is being punished by being imprisoned in a human or forced to drift helplessly through the different planes of creation. This gives him the ability to read the ancient alchemy writings and understand any language since the confusion of languages at Babel only applied to humans, not angels. An ancient warrior race of giant slayers who lived in Hyperborea and hunted nephilim escaped the flood by digging into the hollow earth. One of the Hyperborean tribes resurfaced and established a new homeland which was eventually absorbed by the same federation as MC's country. A nobleman turned outlaw from said country finds MC with a device that detects the aether radiation he gives off and convinces/abducts him just as a regional (later continental) war begins. Outlaw aims to use MC to make the philosopher's stone and save his brother, who he turned into a monster in an attempt to keep him alive after being mortally wounded (brother was heir to the family and potentially could claim right as king over the land). He is haunted by past wars he took part in (alot, since his race can live up to 200) because he was forced into it for the honor of his family and is constantly trying to atone. The "monster" brother sees this and tries to stop him from unleashing alchemy on the world again and to keep him from going mad. MC encounters another host of a fallen angel when his soul is floating through a different plane. They become friends, but the other guy is infected with a really bad God complex from his. In the plane where they meet is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and one of the 12 gates to heaven. The other guy gets MC to help him construct a weapon that can create/destroy matter with material from the tree and try to use it to open the gate. Other guy uses the weapon before it is complete and almost dies but MC saves him. Weapon becomes unstable, could become a nuke/Sodom & Gomorrah event. This takes place just as the outlaw is tricking MC to try to make an artificial human body to transfer his brother's soul into. Opening the gate to heaven for a split second and MC's willingness to sacrifice himself caused the formation of a body with a soul back in the physical plane. (1/?)
