it can be done. it should be done. batman shows us the way to make pulp comic superhero stuff into modern tragedy. the nolan batman films are for all time and it could be done again

it's all there in the phoenix on the sword, all the scheming and the rest. that story is a gem. but somebody just has to really love the cimmerian reaver enough to do it justice.

personally i think it's quite apropos. but there has to be a really good villain involved too. thoth-amon would be just fine. make it a lyrical story about superheroes and other stuff, like unbreakable.

all of the pieces are there. the transformation of a *savage warrior* into a *king* is all there. howard didn't have the pedigree that tolkien did but he was an american original, much else. the whole cast and crew are all there.

i would make it a question of strength and laughter. sort of like james bond - it took a while for bond to find the right balance of things, so that he wasn't too cruel, or too goofy, or too deadly, and so on.

lots going on there with conan. that spirit will not rest. maybe that's a good thing.
