Why are English and French so efficient relative to other languages?

Sorry if this should go in some general or something, but what are your opinions about audiobooks? I listened to two recently and I though they were really convenient. I would still prefer reading a physical book since it is much easier to go my own pace, retain information, have characters voices the way I would want them and no potentially slightly annoying narrator, and it less jarring to go back and re-read something if I spaced out or wanted to check something again. But audio books are really convenient to listen audiobooks while driving or doing some work that doesn't require too much brain power. I actually finished two books quickly thus way when i had trouble finding time before. However, the problems I mentioned earlier make me wonder if I remember less of the stories than if I were to read them. For you, does the way you experience a story matter?

Also any place to download free audiobooks? Especially french since I want to improve in it

This is why an English novel that is 700 pages will be 900 in the German translation. It's also why English is the best language for literature: because of its compressed density and richness.
