ok. I finished Words of Radiance. The second book of the Stormlight Archives series. And I actually liked it. Surprisingly.

I think the second book justifies its length, as opposed to the first. There's more major events that occur throughout the book. But I think what helps the second book out a lot, is that book 1 left so many plot threads open ended, that book 2 was able to pay them all off. Book 2 was revelation after revelation. Sanderson didn't have time to bloviate like he usually does, because there were too many events he had to touch on.

I have to admit that the stupid flying anime battle at the end got me excited.

The only thing I'm really disappointed about: is that Sanderson didn't commit to hacking Kaladin's arm off. As soon as that happened, I was shocked. Because I didn't think Sanderson had the balls to seriously maim a character who relies on both of his hands. But then only a couple of paragraphs later, he immediately has his arm back. That was disappointing. Because as I was trying to understand how Kaladin might go on with 1 arm, the idea came to me: Stormlight is temporary. So perhaps Kaladin needs storm light to power the arm. I mean, the arm was still there, it was just turned into stone. So maybe it acts like dead weight normally. But then he breathes in stormlight, and his arm returns to life temporarily. It would make for an interesting weakness, while still not crippling him entirely. Hell, maybe he could use his dead arms as a means to deflect attacks that is too risky for his good arm.

All that went through my head in a minute, just before reading that he restores his arm with zero consequences. What a let down.
