Why? My grandfather was a peasant who couldn't read or write and I remember him being as jolly as an old man could be. I bet he never had any thought more complex than "how do I acquire resource X to perform action Y" and never seriously examined his worldview. Meanwhile I've plunged through most major works of Western philosophy, have underwent a spiritual phase during which I tried many Western and Eastern religions including 5 Christian denominations and all that effort left me with nothing other than suicidal thoughts and cynicism. Are there any books that argue for the opposite of this dictum i.e. that examined life is worthless and you should instead assume that the basic set of values you've been inculcated with since childhood is unconditionally correct and universally applicable?
